Pundit lambasts ’embarrassing’ Anthony Martial after Man United source’s reveal

Frank McAvennie has claimed Anthony Martial is “embarrassing” himself at Man United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker Erik ten Hag shouldn’t need to sign another centre-forward.

On 28 December, sources told this site that United are working on a temporary forward signing and are willing to pay a £5million January loan fee to get a deal over the line.

The Red Devils are operating with a restricted budget in the winter window after £200million-plus spending in the summer.

But Ten Hag is keen to bring in a new striker capable of replacing Cristiano Ronaldo after his recent departure.

Martial has made ten appearances for United so far this season and has scored five goals and provided two assists in those outings.

McAvennie claimed Martial can prevent Ten Hag from having to spend this month.

You have got to put in the effort and commitment in every week, you cannot do it just when you decide,” he told Football Insider.

He has been there long enough now, he should be well established. The manager should not even be looking for forwards. I would be embarrassed if I was him.

Martial should be making the manager’s decision that he does not need to go and get a top striker but he has not done it. You have got to think the manager does not need to go and buy anyone.

It is a cruel game but Martial needs to think that he can prevent the manager from signing someone else.

In other news, a pundit has issued ‘huge’ Man United claim as takeover could be completed ‘very soon’.
