Pundit lambasts 'very lucky' Arsenal as bold Tottenham claim issued

Arsenal have been “very lucky” this season and their bubble was always going to burst when they played a decent side.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

The Gunners lost 3-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday (4 September) as their perfect start to the 2022-23 Premier League season came to an end.

A debut goal from Antony and Marcus Rashford brace reflected a dominating performance from Erik ten Hag’s side and Bukayo Saka’s goal proved nothing more than a consolation.

Wenham was expecting this result and is expecting more losses for Arsenal in the coming weeks.

“Arsenal hadn’t played anyone who currently sit in the top half of the league,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I saw them in that first game against Palace and I thought they were very, very lucky. That was certainly the best team they have beaten.

“Despite my previous comments on Ten Hag and Man United I was really hoping Arsenal would be humbled at Old Trafford.

“Arsenal have gone too far too soon and you have fans talking about a title challenge. I thought they would get beaten as soon as they came up against a half-decent side.

“I still believe Tottenham will finish above Arsenal and I expect them to lose a few more times soon when they play other sides in the same vein as Man United.”

Mikel Arteta’s side returned to European action against FC Zurich on Thursday (8 September).

Goals from Marquinhos and Eddie Nketiah secured a 2-1 win.
