Pundit lauds Liverpool dealmakers as ‘staggering’ £57.1m deal done – ‘it’s phenomenal’

Liverpool have done well to avoid doing a risky deal for Palmeiras star Endrick.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On 8 December, Fabrizio Romano reported Real Madrid have a full verbal agreement over the signing of 16-year-old Palmeiras star Endrick.

The attacker won’t join Los Blancos until the summer of 2024 despite the club paying a £51.7million fee, (€60million).

Liverpool were credited with an interest in Endrick by the Liverpool Echo on 22 November but Wenham claims the Reds have done well to avoid overpaying.

“I don’t know how this has happened, Palmeiras have worked wonders to sell a 16-year-old for what Romano is claiming to be £60million,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They won’t even get him for two years. The people behind him have pulled off a masterstroke to guarantee that money.

“There are no guarantees that this kid, at 16, will even still like football when he is 18. He might go down another path, something away from the game.

“Characters are going to come around him now he has signed for Real Madrid and that can be very distracting, knowing that this money is there.

“It’s phenomenal to me. I have watched a highlight reel of him and, yes, he does look very good. But the level is so, so low in Brazil that it’s hard to grasp a comparison.

“Real Madrid have never really gotten over losing Neymar to Barcelona so they have been scouting that market for the next Neymar for a while.

“I just can’t get over how well the agents have done to get this deal over the line, it’s staggering.

“There are so many risks on this deal and I think Liverpool won’t regret not paying that money.”
