Pundit makes emphatic Darwin Nunez claim after what he's seen at Liverpool - 'there's nothing better'
Frank McAvennie has claimed “unbelievable” Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez will be full of confidence heading into this Saturday’s game against Fulham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said the 23-year-old, like Erling Haaland, will be ready to hit the ground running in the Premier League.
On Saturday (30 July), Nunez came off the bench to score in Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Man City in the FA Community Shield.
Speaking to club media after the game (30 July), Jurgen Klopp claimed the Uruguay international will get better with time.
The Reds manager added that Nunez will deal with the pressure “brilliantly” and the team will be patient with their striker.
Nunez also netted four goals in Liverpool’s pre-season friendly against RB Leipzig (21 July).

When asked how important it is for strikers to hit the ground running at a new club, McAvennie told Football Insider: “There’s nothing better than going in and scoring goals and performing well.
“Haaland hasn’t scored yet but he’s not been bad and he’s been getting chances. Once he starts taking the chances then it’s all about confidence. Haaland is a confident boy. Nunez is a confident boy, and his confidence is flying now because he’s scored four in one game.
“But it all boils down to this weekend, nothing from pre-season counts once this weekend starts and he’ll be looking to hit the ground running that’s for sure.
“He’s an unbelievable player and could quite easily out-score Haaland this season. I’m looking forward to watching them battle it out for the Golden Boot”.
