Pundit makes 'massive' Fabinho claim after early Liverpool team news
Fabinho will return to the Liverpool starting XI against Atletico Madrid tonight “if he is passed fully fit”.
That is the view of former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the early team news emerging from Anfield ahead of the Champions League fixture.
Speaking to club media yesterday, Jurgen Klopp revealed Fabinho and Thiago are “in contention” to face the Spanish champions tonight.
Fabinho has missed Liverpool’s last three fixtures because of injury, while Thiago has been absent since mid-September.
The duo’s return is timely following the news that Naby Keita will be sidelined “for a while” after suffering a hamstring injury against Brighton on Saturday.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Fabinho would come start against Atletico Madrid, Campbell said:

“Without a shadow of a doubt he’ll come back in if he’s passed fit.
“In the centre of the pitch he is key for Liverpool. He is a dedicated protector in front of the centre-halves.
“His return will help the likes of Virgil van Dijk, who has been out for a very long time. We cannot forget that. Everyone expects to see the Rolls Royce, which he is, but even a Rolls Royce needs a service every now and again. He still needs protection.
“To have Fabinho back is massive for Liverpool.”
Speaking ahead of the game, Klopp said: “Fabinho and Thiago trained completely normally and are in contention, which is good obviously.
“It’s very helpful and so we will see.”
