Pundit makes 'massive' Salah claim as Liverpool in talks over agreeing £94m deal by 1 January

Liverpool will not be held to ransom by Mohamed Salah as he negotiates a new contract at Anfield.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the attacker’s future.

As reported by The Telegraph (18 October) Salah, 29, is demanding a weekly wage of roughly £400,000 to sign new terms at Anfield.

A Liverpool source has told Football Insider today that Klopp is putting “huge” pressure on club chiefs FSG want to get a deal over the line ahead of the January window.

A four-and-a-half year deal costing £400,000-a-week would be worth £93.6million.

McAvennie predicts Liverpool could lose Salah if they don’t match his “massive demands” in their final offer.

“What more can you say about Salah?” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s certainly up there with Haaland and Lewandowski as the best strikers in the world.

“It’s a joy to watch him. I think he’s looking at the boys at Man City and Chelsea and wondering why he’s not earning the same.

“That is what they will be on, he can earn that with them. If he doesn’t get what he wants he will go somewhere else to get it.

“That is a massive demand. But he’s the best in the world right now.

“I don’t know if Liverpool will pay that. They are a massive club but I don’t think they will be held to ransom like that.”

Salah has scored in all but one game he’s played this season.

He scored another outrageous goal as the Reds beat Watford 5-0 at the weekend.
