Pundit: Mikel Arteta 'learned a lot' from Pep Guardiola as new Arsenal footage emerges

Alex McLeish has suggested Mikel Arteta “learned a lot” about how to inspire his Arsenal team from his time with Pep Guardiola.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa manager said the Gunners manager will want to put his “own stamp” on the team.

On Tuesday, Amazon released a clip from Arsenal’s All or Nothing documentary showing Arteta preparing his players for a game at Anfield by blasting You’ll Never Walk Alone during a training session.

Arsenal ended up losing the game 4-0 and failed to score in all four of their games against Liverpool that season.

McLeish insisted that Arteta will persevere with his tactics to try and find something that works for the players.

You always think that that’s a great part of the approach, the manager is trying to do the mind games as well.” he told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“There’s no doubt that Arteta has learned a lot about that over the years with Pep Guardiola. He’s now putting his own stamp on it.

It may not have worked the first time but I’m sure that he’ll persevere and there will be other things to try and hack into the confidence of the players.

I think we’ve seen stories in the past where Guardiola showed the players a video to try and inspire them.

Back in the day I had someone who spoke to the players, as well as me doing the team talk. I did my team talk for the technical part of it and he came in and did something on their mentality.

One or two will probably frown at it but there will be five or six who will be really up for it.
