Pundit moots Rangers sacking after Alfredo Morelos development

Frank McAvennie has claimed Giovanni van Bronckhorst and the Rangers coaching staff should be working harder to get Alfredo Morelos back to fitness.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said Morelos won’t be bothered by being left on the sidelines.

As reported by the Sun (26 August), Van Bronckhorst is set to hold talks with the 26-year-old to discuss his future at the club.

There have been concerns over Morelos’ fitness and attitude.

The Colombia international is yet to start a competitive fixture for the Light Blues this season.

The striker will miss the Gers’ clash against Ross County on Tuesday (30 August) while he serves a suspension but will be eligible for the game against Celtic on Saturday (3 September).

When asked if Morelos could return to the squad for the derby, McAvennie told Football Insider: “No, I don’t think so.

I don’t think he’s fit enough. The manager says he’s not fit enough, none of my managers ever came out and said I wasn’t fit enough because if you’re not fit enough they get you fit.

I don’t understand why any manager is saying their player isn’t fit. Just tell them they’re doing extra training and they’ve got to do it.

Rangers

Sack the fitness coach if Morelos isn’t fit. I get that he’s lazy, he’s been petulant but he’s a player and they’ve got to get him fit. If he’s not fit that’s down to his coach. It’s down to the player to do it but the coaching staff have to get him fit.

I don’t think leaving him out the team is doing him any favours because I don’t think it bothers Morelos.
