Pundit names 'dream' Liverpool midfield as two big-name signings mooted

Frank McAvennie has claimed Liverpool should rebuild their midfield around Thiago Alcantara.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker rubbished the idea that Jurgen Klopp should replace the 31-year-old.

The Reds have struggled in the 2022-23 campaign, with central midfield highlighted as a problem area.

Speaking on BT Sport, as quoted by the Express (3 November), ex-Man United defender Rio Ferdinand suggested Liverpool need to overhaul their midfield.

Ferdinand suggested Thiago, Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Fabinho should all be replaced.

Sources told Football Insider on 8 October that the Merseyside club are interested in both Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice.

McAvennie claimed a midfield three of Thiago, Rice and Bellingham would be “a dream.”

“Thiago is a wonderful player,” he told Football Insider.

“I do not know what Rio is on about. Thiago is the best midfielder Liverpool have got.

“He is not in there to stop play. He makes things happen. The problem is, he is having to do other people’s jobs. That is not his game.

“He is a wonderful player. Why would you get rid of Thiago?

“They need fresh legs in the midfield but they should not get rid of Thiago. If Thiago played with Declan Rice and Bellingham it would be a dream. Bellingham is a runner, Rice can sit and Thiago can ping 70-yard passes with ease.”

In other news, a pundit has claimed Naby Keita and two other Liverpool big names are set to go in January as big-money arrivals mooted.
