Pundit names the six Newcastle players safe from mass cull after Sky reveal
Allan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson, Miguel Almiron, Joe Willock, Martin Dubravka and Isaac Hayden are safe from the chop at Newcastle United under new ownership.
That is the view of ex-Premier League striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about a potential ‘squad overhaul’ at St. James’ Park.
The Premier League confirmed Mike Ashley had successfully sold the Magpies to the PCP Capital Partners consortium for £305m on Thursday.
New club director Amanda Staveley revealed to Sky Sports plans to have ‘the best squad possible’ within FFP guidelines.
Phillips believes defensive reinforcements will be high priority in the transfer market.
“The players you’d say are safe are Saint-Maximin, Wilson, Almiron, Willock and maybe Dubravka and Hayden,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“I’m not saying the other players will leave straight away. But, those are the players I can see being part of the team in the long-term.
“Let’s be honest, that squad needs an overhaul, especially the defence. I think the back four is an area that will be of particular focus when money is invested.
“First and foremost, Newcastle need to get results. They need to stay in that league – end of. You do not want to bring in all of that new investment and then get relegated.
“January will be about making signings that can ensure they stay in the league. Then, next summer will be when they make wholesale changes to the squad.”
