Pundit names winner in Liverpool and Tottenham race to sign Sofyan Amrabat race after new reveal – ‘it’s just a fact’
Noel Whelan has backed Liverpool to beat Tottenham in the race for Morocco’s midfield star Sofyan Amrabat in January.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Merseysiders are more likely to win trophies than Spurs – and claimed he would rather play under Jurgen Klopp than Antonio Conte.
According to French outlet Foot Mercato (18 December), Amrabat’s entourage has already met with Klopp to discuss a potential January deal.
The report also claims long-time admirers Tottenham have reignited their interest in his services – but the Fiorentina star’s early preference is a move to Anfield.
Amrabat was one of the stars of the World Cup in Qatar as his dominant midfield performances helped Morocco achieve a historic fourth-place finish.
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (13 December) that Liverpool are laying the groundwork for two new midfield signings and at least one deal could be done in January.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think if I’ve got the choice of going to Tottenham or Liverpool, I’m going to Liverpool.
“They’ve already built a great side, they’ve had a lot of success.
“There’s not too much to choose between them, but Liverpool just have that bit more history on their side.
“Both clubs have got fantastic managers, fantastic stadiums, facilities, fans.

“But if you’re looking for a side who are going to challenge for trophies every year, you’ve got to sign for Liverpool. That’s just a fact.
“If you’re letting me play under one of the managers, I’d rather play under Klopp.”
