Pundit on Ange Postecoglou sealing 'remarkable' Celtic exit after update

Noel Whelan has insisted “remarkable” Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou “has got more to do” at Parkhead amid links to the Brighton job.

The former Leeds and Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 57-year-old should stay in order to make the Hoops “competitive” in European competition.

As quoted by The Herald (13 September), Postecoglou has insisted he is “paying no attention” to reports linking him with the vacancy at the Amex Stadium.

That stance comes after the Sunday Times (11 September) claimed he is “still a strong contender” to land the job at Brighton after Graham Potter’s exit earlier this month.

Celtic sit top of the Scottish Premiership and could yet qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League after a crucial draw against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday (14 September).

Whelan hailed the style of play and transfer network put in place at Parkhead by Postecoglou.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “What he’s done with Celtic in a short time is remarkable.

“The style of play and the players he has brought in have been fantastic for the club. The network he has put in place is second-to-none.

“They are competitive. If you can hold Real Madrid for an hour, you know that you’re doing something right.

“He’s got more to do at Celtic. I don’t think he’ll want to leave now.

“They’re going to win trophies again this year – but there is still a challenge there that he’s really relishing.

“Now it’s time to make Celtic competitive not just domestically but in Europe as well.”
