Pundit on Jarrod Bowen being axed from West Ham XI after latest

Kevin Campbell has insisted there is no danger of Jarrod Bowen being dropped by West Ham despite his barren start to the new campaign.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 25-year-old’s work rate makes him indispensable to David Moyes.

Bowen, who registered 18 goals last term, is yet to score in five Premier League outings this term but has scored in Europa Conference League qualifying.

The forward was called up to the senior England squad and won four caps earlier this summer following his impressive form in 2021-22.

As per FBRef, Bowen registered 0.34 expected goals per game last season but has managed just 0.16 xG in the new campaign – a worse tally than in his first Premier League season.

Campbell suggested the former Hull star’s goals were the driving force behind his England call-up.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “West Ham haven’t started great, although they’ve had two good results against Villa and Tottenham.

“Sometimes it starts like this in a season. This is around the time that you would expect form to pick up for a player like Bowen – between the six to ten game mark.

“That’s when teams and players like Bowen start to find the right levels.

“One thing he does do well is work ever so hard – so he’ll always have a place in that West Ham line up.

“His goals pushed him for England, and rightly so – because he was incredible. I’m sure he’ll get back to scoring soon.”
