Pundit predicts Celtic will sign 'quick' centre-back after Duffy reveal - Robinson

Celtic will learn from their mistakes and sign a centre-half capable of playing a high line this summer.

That is according to former Spurs and England number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Shane Duffy’s difficult spell at Parkhead.

Celtic confirmed on Friday that the 29-year-old had returned to Brighton early following an unsuccessful loan spell in Glasgow.

The centre-back made 27 appearances for the Hoops across all competitions but had started just once since February.

Duffy was caught out on numerous occasions during the season, with it being suggested he was better suited to a team playing a low block, rather than a high line like Celtic.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the Republic of Ireland international’s future, Robinson said: “It did not work out for Duffy at all.

“I think it was the dream move for him on paper but for whatever reason it did not work.

“He has got a lot of work on now to get his stock back up to the level he wants.

“He was very poor at Celtic and you start to wonder what is next for him. Where does he go from here? He needs to rebuild and find a club where he can play week in, week out.

“Celtic-wise they have got to learn from their mistakes and I think they will. They need to sign a centre-half that is comfortable playing a high line, someone who is quick. And I expect them will.

“The situation there is similar to at Tottenham, a lot rides on the manager. There is a lot they need to get right both on and off the pitch this year.”
