Celtic will pull off a “dynamite” signing if they succeed in signing Mohamed Elyounoussi on a permanent deal.

That is the verdict of ex-Aberdeen and Leeds United striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the transfer being worked on by the Scottish champions.

Football Insider has revealed that Celtic have been in contact with Southampton about converting Elyounoussi’s season-long loan into a full-time transfer.

The Saints have told Neil Lennon’s side it will cost between £8-10million to sign the winger they took to England from Basel in the summer of 2018.

“If Celtic could get it done, that would be a great deal,” Whelan told Football Insider. “Obviously, it’s a lot of money for them, and is pretty much the most they’ve ever spent on anyone.

“But you can see how much impact Elyounoussi has made in just a few months and he’s clearly loving the trust he’s getting from Neil Lennon.

“Wingers who can score as prolifically as centre-forwards are worth their weight in gold. You look at players like Mo Salah, Raheem Sterling, Sadio Mane, the best in the Premier League.

“Elyounoussi can be huge for Celtic. He’s dynamite – quick, good feet, a big threat cutting in from the left, scores goals, creates goals. He’s tough as well.”

Elyounoussi has made a big impact at Parkhead since his August arrival, scoring seven goals and providing six assists from 12 matches for his temporary employers.

His success is in stark contrast to his debut Saints campaign, when he made 11 starts among 19 appearances in all competitions and did not register a single goal or assist.

In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that the club are in the hunt to sign 6ft 4in giant from English club.
