Pundit salutes ‘brilliant’ Reguilon after ‘unbelievable’ Tottenham reveal via Sky

Tottenham stars Sergio Reguilon and Emerson Royal will be “absolutely pivotal” players under Antonio Conte, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, highlighted Conte’s successful past use of wing-backs at Chelsea – and suggested the 52-year-old could repeat the trick at Spurs.

Reguilon scored his first Tottenham goal to seal a 2-1 victory against the Whites yesterday (November 21st), and was named man of the match by Sky Sports.

The Spain international made the most interceptions (three) and sprints (21) during the clash at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Speaking after the game, Reguilon told Sky Sports that Conte has instructed him to have the “mentality of a striker” when attacking – describing the feeling of scoring the winner as “unbelievable”.

Whelan heaped praise on the “quality” left-back.

“I thought Reguilon was brilliant,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He was the standout for me, he had so much drive going forward.

“We’ve seen in the past at Chelsea how Conte likes to use those wing-backs to break the opposition lines and overload teams. He could do something similar at Spurs.

“He’s also managed to get the best out of Emerson so far in a Tottenham shirt. It looks like they’re going to have to be really fit. They will be absolutely pivotal for Conte and the team.

“I’ve been an admirer of Reguilon for some time. He really stamped his authority on the game and grabbed the winner to show what a quality player he is.”

Reguilon joined Tottenham from Real Madrid in 2020 for a fee that could reportedly reach £32million.

Emerson followed the Spaniard from La Liga to Spurs, joining from Barcelona during the summer.
