Agbonlahor makes Leeds prediction after crushing Bamford development

Patrick Bamford will be gutted by his England debut but he can keep his place if he continues to thrive for Leeds United.

That is the view of ex-England and Aston Villa attacker Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Bamford failed to find the net against Andorra at Wembley on Sunday.

The Leeds star was handed a full debut but managed just two shots, as per sofascore, against the nation ranked 156th in the FIFA rankings.

He was replaced with captain Harry Kane just after the hour mark with England leading 1-0.

Kane subsequently scored from the penalty spot as the Three Lions ran out 4-0 winners in the World Cup qualifier.

Asked whether he thought Bamford may have failed his England audition and not have an international future, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Not really, no.

“He didn’t do very well in the game and he’ll probably hold his hands up.

“But it’s his first game for England, he’s still got a chance. If he keeps playing well and keeps scoring for Leeds then he’s got a chance of getting back in.

“He’ll be disappointed that he didn’t get a chance to score in the game against Andorra. You’d want to score in that game.

“He’s just got to keep doing what he does for Leeds and I’m sure he’ll get further call-ups.”

Bamford scored 17 times in 37 Premier League games last season – Kane was the only Englishman to find the net more often.

The 28-year-old has not scored in three top-flight appearances this term.
