Pundit shares Newcastle manager verdict after 'everything he's heard' from the club

Steve Bruce can be proud of his legacy at Newcastle United if he is sacked, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward admitted everything he’s heard points towards Bruce being replaced at St. James’ Park.

A Newcastle source told Football Insider today (October 12) the new regime have three targets as they are set to replace the current manager.

It is understood Rangers’ Steven Gerrard, Leciester’s Brendan Rodgers and Everton’s Rafa Benitez will be sounded out about the position.

Bruce oversaw training yesterday and Sky Sports reported today he has again reported for training.

If he remains in charge against Tottenham at the weekend he will celebrate his 1000th game in management.

“Everything you’re hearing is that they will change the manager,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“I’m sure Steve Bruce will have liked a chance to be given some money, improve the team and been given a shot at it. It’s out of his hands.

“Either way I’m sure he’ll be proud of what he’s done at Newcastle United.

“He deserves a chance, he’s been a great manager over his career and you just want to get him that 1000th game.

“Steve Bruce himself will want that 1000th game but he’ll want to continue managing anyway, regardless of what happens at Newcastle United.”

Bruce has been in charge of Newcastle since the summer of 2019 and guided them to 13th and 12th place finishes in his first two seasons.

They currently sit in 19th after seven games, one points off safety.
