Alex McLeish claims Rodrigo Moreno has been let off the hook for his fitness problems thanks to his Leeds United teammates.
The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested outstanding performances from the likes of Raphinha meant the Whites were not missing their record signing as much as they could have done.
As confirmed by Marcelo Bielsa on Thursday, Rodrigo is still recovering from the muscular injury that ruled him out against Manchester City.
It remains to be seen whether the 30-year-old is available for Monday night’s clash against Liverpool.
The Spain international has made just 12 starts in 21 league appearances for Leeds this season.
A groin injury kept him out for six games across February.
He has featured just three times in five matches since recovering.
McLeish admitted Rodrigo had proven a “tough nut” for Leeds to crack this season due to injury.
However, he suggested the likes of Raphinha had taken the spotlight off his teammate’s problems.
“Rodrigo has proven to be a tough nut for them to solve the problem for,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“He never seems to be able to shake off what muscle problems he has.
“Thank goodness that they have outstanding teamwork and individuals who have been coping superbly well.
“Raphinha has been a massive find. A guy who can change a game and terrifies defenders when he’s running at them. Another guy who’s got the tremendous mentality to work for the team.”
Raphinha has netted six goals and contributed six goals in 26 league appearances.
Meanwhile, Rodrigo has scored just three times so far for Leeds.
