Pundit shreds ‘ridiculous’ decision as eight Rangers stars could follow Ross Wilson out of Ibrox
Frank McAvennie has hailed the decision by Rangers to get rid of sporting director Ross Wilson.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said Wilson is the only person to blame for the messy contract situation at Ibrox.
Forest confirmed (12 April) that they have appointed the 39-year-old as the club’s chief football officer following the departure of sporting director Filippo Giraldi.
Football Insider previously revealed (12 April), that the Premier League club were close to finalising a deal with Wilson shortly before the confirmation of his appointment.
The former Rangers man spent three years north of the border during which the Ibrox club secured their first league title in ten years and also reached the Europa League final the following season.
But Wilson found himself in a difficult position towards the end of his time in Glasgow and fan pressure mounted on the sporting director.
The Gers could still lose up to eight players for free this summer, including Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Ryan Jack, alongside other important first team members whose contracts are up at the end of this campaign.
McAvennie insisted the current predicament is down to the failings of Wilson.
“I do not mean anything personal but there is eight contracts up at the end of the season and that is his fault,” he told Football Insider.
“Eight guys walking away and Rangers are not getting money.

“I am not Einstein or anything but that does not sound like a good deal to me and that is down to Ross Wilson.
“If they are not signing they should have sold them last year or got a couple of million for them in January. The likes of Kent and Morelos are not doing anything and are walking away without giving Rangers anything which is ridiculous.“
In other news, second Rangers man could now follow Ross Wilson to Nottingham Forest.
