Pundit slams Aston Villa stars after source's Unai Emery reveal - 'just not good enough'
It is “obvious” Aston Villa will “spend big” to bolster their attacking options in January.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the club’s January plans.
On Thursday (10 November), sources told Football Insider that Aston Villa have set their sights on signing an A-list forward in January with Unai Emery giving the green light to recruit a versatile operator who can potentially play anywhere across the front line.
The new Villa boss has players such as Emiliano Buendia, Philippe Coutinho, Leon Bailey and Bertrand Traore to choose from though none of them have ever been consistent performers for Villa.
McManus claims the need to sign a new attacker is “obvious”.
“He needs his own squad doesn’t he?” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“You see this with every manager at any new club. You see it with every new manager Villa hire. Gerrard got loads to spend and I’m sure with Emery it will be the same.
“This isn’t some other run-of-the-mill manager. This is Unai Emery. Do you think they managed to get him from Villarreal without promising to spend big in January?
“It’s obvious they will spend big and they need new attackers, there just aren’t enough goals there. I think that’s what he will look at first because you can’t rely on the players they currently have.
“They aren’t particularly bad, you just can’t rely on them to consistently perform. I think their top scorer has four this season, it’s just not good enough.”
Emery has now managed two games as Villa boss, beating Man United in the league but also losing to the same side in the League Cup.
Villa face Brighton on Sunday (13 November) in their last Premier League test before the World Cup break.
