Pundit slams Man United outcast Harry Maguire after confirmed news – ‘it’s just not right’
Man City and Man United outcasts Kalvin Phillips and Harry Maguire should not be picked for England duty.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie is appalled Gareth Southgate is choosing the pair when they have had little to no game time this season.
The pair have played a total of 29 minutes for their respective clubs this term and were both included in Southgate’s squad for their Euro 2024 qualifier against Ukraine and their friendly match against Scotland.

Phillips has made a single six-minute cameo for Pep Guardiola’s side this season whilst Maguire came on for 23 minutes for United in the loss to Arsenal last weekend (2 September).
Both players found it difficult to make inroads at their clubs last season and are faced with another campaign spent mostly on the sidelines.
McAvennie insisted there are other players more deserving of a spot in the squad.
“I just can’t understand why he is picking Phillips and Maguire,” he told Football Insider.
“I know they are good players, I will be the first one to admit that but they are not playing.

“If I was a midfield player or a centre-half I am going to question that. If you are doing everything you can to get into the team and he is picking players that are not playing, it is not right.
“It has got a knock on effect to the young players who have been doing really well. They are big players but they are not match sharp so they should not be playing.“
