Pundit suggests Ajeti's Celtic career is over after 'cruel' blow

Noel Whelan has suggested Albian Ajeti’s Celtic career may be all but over after Thursday’s win over Real Betis.

The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted Ange Postecoglou will have made his mind up over the 24-year-old.

Ajeti started for the Bhoys on Thursday (9 December) but was forced off before the half-hour mark through injury.

It was his first start since late September.

Whelan admitted the Switzerland international may have had his last chance to impress Postecoglou.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think we can see the end for him, can’t we?

“It’s one of those, it’s tough but it’s going to happen. He’s had his opportunity. New managers come in, they look at players, they assess players.

“They make their decisions during that time, whether they’re going to be an integral part of his squad going forward or not.

“That’s just football. Every man’s got a different opinion. As cruel as it is, it looks like his Celtic career is coming to an end.”

Celtic had already confirmed third place in their Europa League match, meaning there was little to play for on Thursday.

Stephen Welsh, Ewan Henderson and David Turnbull scored for the Bhoys on the way to victory.

Ajeti has made 17 appearances this season but has fallen firmly out of favour in recent months.

He has only played five minutes in the Hoops’ last eight league games, not making the matchday squad for two of those.

The Swiss hitman has a total of 48 appearances and nine goals under his belt for the Bhoys.
