Pundit suggests new Liverpool transfer plan after Leandro Trossard offer

Alan Hutton has insisted Liverpool were right to turn down Leandro Trossard.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender told the Reds that signing a central midfielder should be the priority.

According to the Liverpool Echo’s Ben Jacobs, relayed by Anfield Watch (28 November), the Reds rejected the chance to sign Trossard, 27, after he was offered to them.

The winger was also offered to Man United and Chelsea but Liverpool are said to be uninterested in the Brighton star who is out of contract in the summer.

On Sunday (27 November), sources told this site that the Merseysiders have set their sights on signing two midfielders next year, with Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice high on the list.

Hutton insisted Liverpool were right to turn down Trossard given the need to focus on reinforcing the midfield.

He has had a great season he really has,” he told Football Insider.

He is obviously off to the World Cup as well. If they have turned it down they obviously feel that they do not need that sort of player in that position. I do not actually think that they do to be honest.

Liverpool

That is no disrespect to him or what he has done, I think he has been excellent. But I think Liverpool are well-stocked in the forward areas.

The midfield is a priority for them, a central midfielder so that is where they will be looking to recruit.
