Pundit suggests Poveda may be quitting Leeds permanently after Bielsa fall-out reveal

Paddy Kenny has claimed Ian Poveda could join Blackburn Rovers permanently from Leeds United when his loan spell comes to an end.

The former goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Poveda would be tempted by the prospect of playing regular football.

Leeds confirmed on Monday (August 23rd) that Poveda had departed on loan to Ewood Park.

Football Insider understands Poveda was dropped to the Whites’ under-23 side after a fall-out with manager Marcelo Bielsa.

The 21-year-old was also made available for a permanent move away from Elland Road.

Kenny insisted that a move away from Leeds after the expiration of Poveda’s loan remains a real possibility.

“He’s not played many games for Leeds, so it’ll be great for him to get out on loan,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“He might enjoy playing first-team football and being part of a first-team.

“Players sometimes go out on loan after being pushed aside and not included at their parent club. They become involved day in, day out.

“That’s what players want, that involvement.

“He can get some games under his belt at Blackburn. I can see it becoming an option for him to join permanently if he doesn’t go somewhere else.

“He’s still a young lad.”

Poveda joined Leeds in January 2020 from Manchester City.

He made 14 Premier League appearances last term, all as a substitute.

The England under-20 international’s contract at Leeds expires in 2024.

The London-born winger could make his Blackburn bow at Middlesbrough on Saturday.
