Pundit suggests Roberto Firmino could now quit Liverpool after U-turn - 'hold on a second'

Alan Hutton has claimed Roberto Firmino is in a “really good position” to secure a Liverpool exit after his “brilliant” resurgence in form.

The former Tottenham and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 30-year-old has “put himself in the shop window” after impressing amid injuries to Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.

Firmino has notched a combined 13 goals and assists in 21 Liverpool appearances this season.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (5 November) that Firmino is very keen on signing a new contract at Anfield as the Merseysiders prepare to open talks.

However, it is understood that the forward would have to agree a pay cut in order to remain at the club.

Firmino is currently out of contract next summer and can discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from 1 January.

Hutton claimed Liverpool would have to pay “a hell of a lot of money” to replace someone of his quality.

He told Football Insider: “Before this season I’d say he was heading for an exit.

“But through the injuries, he’s made everyone think: ‘hold on a second, he’s still got a lot to give’.

“It’s brilliant for him either way.

“He’s contributing on a weekly basis, and he’s put himself in the shop window with the time he’s been given.

“Firmino is in a really good position.

“His minutes will be limited going forward, but he has shown that when he comes in he can bring something to the table.

“To replace someone like him, you have to spend a hell of a lot of money. It’ll come down to the contract and the wages on offer.”
