Pundit suggests the real reason Martin Dubravka is back at Newcastle United

Alan Hutton has suggested Newcastle United could be about to lose one of their back-up goalkeepers as they welcome back Martin Dubravka.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa right-back suggested an injury or a potential exit as reason for recalling Dubravka from his loan.

On 1 January Newcastle confirmed that the keeper has been recalled from his season-long loan spell with Man United.

The 33-year-old made just two appearances under Erik ten Hag during his short spell at Old Trafford.

The Magpies said the Slovakia international will now provide further competition for Nick Pope who has kept ten clean sheets in the Premier League so far this season.

Pope’s contract at St James’ Park runs until 2026 after his arrival from Burnley in the summer.

Eddie Howe’s other goalkeeping options include Karl Darlow and Mark Gillespie.

Hutton suggested there could be problems that the fans don’t know about that would explain Dubravka’s loan being cut short.

Maybe someone is leaving or there is an injury we do not know about,” he told Football Insider.

Pope has been an ever-present, he has been a kind of rock in the goal for them so I am kind of surprised as to why they would want to pull him back.

There must be some reason and we have maybe just not heard of it yet. Is Darlow going to leave? Is somebody else going to leave? So I am sure there will be a reason.
