Pundit swipes at deluded Newcastle fans who are ‘pretending’
Newcastle United fans are “pretending” to see a difference in playing style under Eddie Howe and Steve Bruce, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed the fans had a “cheek” to ever moan about Bruce.
Howe replaced Bruce last month (8 November) but has not seen a huge upturn in results.
After their 4-0 defeat to Man City at the weekend (19 December), they are on a run of three consecutive defeats and Agbonlahor has claimed their chances of survival are rapidly evaporating.
“Newcastle are a million miles off it,” he told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“The fans have got a cheek to ever moan at Steve Bruce. There is no difference between what Steve Bruce got out of these players and what Eddie Howe has.
“Newcastle fans are pretending to see a different style. I don’t see any difference.
“I’ve seen nothing better from Newcastle. They played a Leicester team that had not been playing well and conceding goals, they lost 4-0. They play Man City, a tough game, but there are no signs there.
“With Newcastle and Norwich, I don’t see any signs of them staying up at all.
“They are not good enough. They’ve played 18 games and have got 10 points, how is that even possible?
“You need 30 more points from the rest of the games. They’ve got to win half of their games now. I don’t see that happening.
“They might have money to spend, but it might be too late.
“Whoever they bring in is not going to be world-class and good enough for them to win every other game.”
