Pundit swipes at John Lundstram as Rangers inquest intensifies – ‘out the window’
Frank McAvennie has claimed Rangers boss Michael Beale must shoulder the blame for the defeat to Celtic on Sunday (26 February).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said Beale chose the wrong team for the cup final and has to “own up” to that.
Despite signing Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin in the winter window, the Gers boss opted to start John Lundstram and Glen Kamara in midfield ahead of the new arrivals.
Lundstram hasn’t featured for the Light Blues in the league since limping off against Ross County on 4 February and many fans were surprised by his inclusion in such a big game given his recent injury woes.
Cantwell has already made six appearances for Beale’s side since his arrival from Norwich last month.
Raskin has made four appearances across all competitions since joining Ibrox in January.
McAvennie was surprised the pair were left out of the starting XI.
“I thought Rangers played the wrong team,” he told Football Insider.
“Lundstram and Kamara have not played together for that long. The new boys coming in, Cantwell and Raskin, they are probably wondering why they are not playing. It is strange but I was delighted.

“Friendship goes out the window when it comes to cup finals, you have got to play your best team. They did it all wrong at the weekend.
“Beale picked the wrong team and that is on him, he has to own that.“
In other news, according to sources, Rangers are ready to accept Scott Wright offer as overhaul begins.
