Pundit swipes at Tottenham star 'getting away' with '6/10' displays thanks to Kane

Noel Whelan has claimed Lucas Moura has been able to “get away” with putting in “6/10” displays at Tottenham thanks to Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the 29-year-old Brazilian has not been at his best recently.

Lucas played 77 minutes in Thursday’s (2 November) 2-0 win over Brentford.

The Brazilian had the worst pass success rate (54 per cent) of anyone who started the game (as per Whoscored).

He also made the fewest touches (38) among the outfield players in Spurs’ starting XI.

Whelan admitted while Lucas has been an excellent player, he is being carried by Kane and Son.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “There have been times where he’s probably been one of the best players, when you’ve had Harry Kane and Son not at their best.

“I think if you’ve got two or three that are giving you an 8/10 and another one giving you a 6/10, you could probably get away with it.

“We know what quality possesses, he’s fantastic with the ball at his feet, he’s got great pace. He’s one of these players that can make things happen.

“I think sometimes you’re going to have these periods in the season where you’re not at your very best. You’ve got to rely on the other two players.

“Kane didn’t score last night but his link-up play and the game he played was fantastic. Son’s on the scoresheet doing his part.”

Lucas has not scored in 12 Premier League appearances this season, with one top-flight assist to his name.

He has however found the back of the net twice in cup competitions.
