Pundit tells Everton to make ‘superb’ appointment after new Lampard twist
Kevin Phillips has urged Everton to keep Duncan Ferguson in charge despite the reemergence of Frank Lampard in the battle to become Toffees boss.
The former England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed it was a “no-brainer” to keep the 50-year-old fan favourite until the end of the season.
According to the Guardian (27 January), Lampard, Ferguson and Vitor Pereira are set for a final round of interviews today (28 January) before Farhad Moshiri appoints the new Everton boss.

Pereira had emerged as the preferred option this week but Moshiri pulled back following a hostile reaction from fans.
Phillips suggested Lampard would do a “decent” job in the Everton hot seat, but urged the Merseysiders to hold off making a permanent appointment.
“I thought he did a good job at Chelsea,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“I don’t think he would’ve been far off achieving what Thomas Tuchel achieved last season. It was a bit of a harsh sacking, but as we all know – that’s football.
“In my opinion, he would do a decent job at Everton.
“For me, just leave Duncan Ferguson in charge for now – he’s a superb option and a real safe pair of hands.
“It’d give you the opportunity to go and talk to plenty of candidates. Then a new manager could come in towards the back end of the season having decided where they need reinforcements.
“I think the no-brainer is to keep Ferguson in charge. It’d give a new manager a fresh start with a good pre-season.”

16th-place Everton sit four points clear of relegation danger.
Rafa Benitez was sacked earlier this month following a run of just one win in his last 12 league games.
