Pundit tells Tottenham to ‘pay up’ amid ‘bizarre’ Pedro Porro development

Tottenham should “pay up” and meet Pedro Porro’s release clause.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the ongoing transfer talks.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (18 January), the Lilywhites have made an opening bid for the 23-year-old that includes one player plus guaranteed money which Sporting Lisbon have rejected.

The London club will continue negotiations with the Portuguese side who are insistent on the release clause being met.

Porro’s current deal expires in 2025 and is believed to be keen on a move.

Conte’s current right-back options include Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty and Djed Spence.

McManus can’t believe Spurs are haggling with Sporting.

“Tottenham know how much he will cost, pay up,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“It’s a £40million and something release clause, it’s really not that much money if he is their top target.

“They have needed a good right back for a long time now. Emerson Royal is not good enough, Doherty isn’t performing as well as he should have been.

“They need a right back and this guy has been identified as the guy they want to bring in. Tottenham are loaded, they are bringing in so much money.

“Just pay the money, it’s easy to see why the fans are so annoyed at the ownership.

“It’s bizarre to me that they aren’t just paying the money. I’m all for a bargain but this isn’t that much money for Spurs.”
