Pundit tells Tottenham to replace ‘awful’ Kane in January

Tottenham must sign a proven goalscorer in January as Harry Kane’s “awful” run of form continues.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the striker’s form.

Kane, 28, has only scored once in 13 Premier League outings this season.

At the same point last season he had nine league goals to his name and would go on to score another 14 before the end of the season.

Kane remains the only senior striker at Spurs and as such, McAvennie insists a new forward has to be signed in January.

“I didn’t think we would be at Christmas and Kane still wouldn’t be scoring,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I really don’t know what to say. He’s has been incredible for three or four years and now he can’t score to save his life.

“Good players go through bad spells. But is a world-class player going through an awful spell.

“Everyone said the goals would come but they haven’t. That has to be a major concern for Spurs.

“It’s just not happening for him and Tottenham are really suffering. Kane is making them worse, in my opinion.

“This is why they need another striker. If your main man isn’t doing it, you replace him.

“Tottenham can’t do that. If they want any kind of success they need another quality, proven striker at the club.”

Kane has scored seven goals for Tottenham in the EFL Cup and the Europa Conference League this season.

He has also been in fine form for his country.
