Pundit: This is when Martin Dubravka could leave Newcastle United amid Eddie Howe confession
Frank McAvennie suspects Martin Dubravka could leave Newcastle United at the end of the 2022-23 season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-West Ham striker is confident the 33-year-old will want to stay and fight for his place at St. James’ Park this season.
Dubravka was named on the bench for the Magpies’ opening Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest on Saturday (6 August).
New signing Nick Pope, 30, started between the sticks for Newcastle in a 2-0 win at St James’ Park.
As quoted by The Northern Echo (8 August), Eddie Howe said he “doesn’t want” any of his current shot-stoppers to leave.
However, the Magpies boss admitted that four keepers are “difficult to carry”.
When asked if he thought Dubravka could look for an exit, McAvennie told Football Insider: “Not at the moment because his pride will be hurt and he’ll be wanting to fight for his place.
“Goalkeepers work every minute of the day with each other and they push each other. They’re happy and they push each other to get the best out of them.

“It’s two good keepers at Newcastle. I think it’s going to be a long hard season and I think they’ll need the two of them.
“If he’s going to move it will be at the end of the season. He’ll want to look for a move then, whether or not they’ll give him it I don’t know. Big clubs need two good goalkeepers.“
