Pundit: This may be real reason Andy Robertson axed from Liverpool XI
Paul Robinson has claimed Andy Robertson may have been dropped by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp because of “fixture congestion.”
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested Robertson, 28, was rested ahead of games against Napoli and Wolves.
Robertson was replaced by Kostantinos Tsimikas in the starting XI for the trip to Everton on Saturday (3 September).
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp rarely drops of withdraws Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold but both have found their game time reduced this season.
The duo’s downturn in form has coincided with Liverpool winning just two of their opening six Premier League fixtures.
When asked by Football Insider why Robertson was likely dropped for the Merseyside derby, Robinson said: “Liverpool have a lot of games coming up.
“There is going to be fixture congestion. I think that was the main reason he was dropped.
“You could say though, what game is bigger than the Merseyside derby? You can look at it both ways because as a player you want to play in those games. The Merseyside derby is one of the biggest games you can play in.
“He also may have not been 100 per cent fit for the game.

“Liverpool have had such an indifferent start. A couple of new faces were needed in the team.
“They are craving results at the moment. Nobody in that Liverpool side is undroppable.”
