Newcastle tipped to sign Coutinho, Ramsey and two England stars after '£205m' reveal - pundit

Jesse Lingard, James Tarkowski, Philippe Coutinho and Aaron Ramsey should be top of the Newcastle United shopping list ahead of the January transfer window.

That is the view of ex-Aston Villa and England attacker Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Saudi-led consortium completed their takeover of Newcastle.

Finance expert Keiran Maguire told Football Insider (October 8) they could spend £205million in January and still stick to financial fair play regulations.

The Telegraph reported the next day Tarkowski could be the first signing of the new regime and his England teammate Lingard has been discussed as a transfer target.

Asked how Newcastle should approach the January window given they could have £205million to play with, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “For Newcastle, they’ve got to do it properly, they’ve got to do it in stages.

“They should say ‘Let’s get players who will change our fortunes bit-by-bit’. Players like Lingard, players like Tarkowski, players like Coutinho, players like Ramsey.

“Bring in these sorts of players that can progress the team. Don’t bring in the superstars straight away, that will come.

“Newcastle will think ‘Ok, get into the top eight. Then can we get into the top six? Then can we get into the top four? Then can we win the title?’. It’s not going to happen overnight.

“It’s got to be a four or five-year plan and I think that’s what they will do.

“With where they are at the moment it’s going to be hard to attract world-class players to their club. They’ve got to do it in stages.”
