Pundit tips Rondon and new Everton teammate to blow teams away after deal done
Alan Hutton has admitted he is drooling at the prospect of new Everton signing Salomon Rondon play alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the duo could strike up a “dominant” partnership up front.
Everton announced the signing of 31-year-old Rondon late on deadline day (August 31st), with the striker penning a two-year deal.
The Toffees hold the option to extend his stay by a further season.
Rondon joined the Merseyside club on a free transfer from Chinese side Dalian Professional.
Everton boss Rafa Benitez links up with the powerful striker for the third time, having worked together at Dalian and Newcastle.
Hutton admitted the thought of Rondon and Calvert-Lewin leading the line would be an exciting one for Everton fans.
“Rafa knows him well from his Newcastle days,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“He knows what he brings to the party and what he’s capable of.
“Can you imagine him and Calvert-Lewin playing up front together? That could be a dominant pair.
“Whether it’s competition up top or whether he’s being brought in to start, they’re getting an experienced player who knows the league and manager.
“I think it’s a good signing. Some of the signings they made, I think people were questioning what direction the club was going in because they weren’t spending big money.
“But they’ve brought in experienced players who will give everything, and I’m sure Benitez is very happy.”

The ex-West Brom striker has scored 35 goals in 140 Premier League appearances.
Calvert-Lewin, Rondon, Richarlison and Cenk Tosun are expected to be Benitez’s striking options for the coming season.
In other news, this pundit has insisted James Rodriguez is to blame after Everton failed to get him out the door during the transfer window.
