Pundit: Tottenham could spend '£20m-plus' on new signing thanks to Sanchez
Noel Whelan has claimed Davinson Sanchez could give Tottenham “£20million-plus” to spend in the transfer market this summer.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 25-year-old could be “like a new signing” under Nuno Espirito Santo.
As revealed by Football Insider back in May, Spurs were open to offers for Sanchez as they looked to sign another centre-back.
The Lilywhites have since signed Cristian Romero from Atalanta.
However, Sanchez started Spurs’ season opener against Manchester City and put in a fine performance on the way to a 1-0 win.
Whelan has suggested Tottenham may now be reluctant to sell the Colombian.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “You look at that new manager effect, don’t you?
“Some people were out in the cold and not really thought upon as first-team players. He was somebody that they could allow to leave the club and was not needed.
“Now you’ve got a new manager that has come in. Everyone is on a clean slate. He’s obviously impressed and nailed down a start at the beginning of the season against Man City.
“He’s done exceptionally well and it looks like his mind, body and performances are in a really good place.
“When you look at the big picture, do you really need to go out there and spend £20million-plus on a player?
“He could be like a new signing for you under the new manager. He has put that thought in the manager’s mind. Whether he really needs to go out and spend that money.
“Would it be better off spent elsewhere? Is this the player they signed but just needed the right manager to get the right quality out of him?”
