Pundit verdict on Harry Maguire quitting Man United for Chelsea
Joining Chelsea would be a “great move” for Harry Maguire if he leaves Man United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie is unsure if new Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino would want a defender like Maguire.
The 30-year-old has been stripped of the Man United captaincy after being dropped by Erik ten Hag last season and has been heavily linked with an exit this summer.
The defender still has two years remaining on his Old Trafford contract but has fallen down the pecking order at United and is likely to be a back up option for the upcoming campaign.
According to The Sun (16 July), the Blues are considering entering the race for Maguire, who is already attracting interest from West Ham, Tottenham and Newcastle United.
When asked if Maguire would get game time at Stamford Bridge, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I can tell you this – it depends what system they play.
“Chelsea is full on, they are an attacking team and they push on a bit like Celtic and Maguire does not have the pace to get back.

“It would be a great move for him if he could get that done. But he does not want to go somewhere he is not going to get a game, he does not want to be in the same position that he has been at United.
“Would Chelsea want him? I do not know. Pochettino wants them to push and close players down, I do not know if that is Maguire’s game.“
