Pundit verdict on Ianis Hagi quitting Rangers for Premier League club after latest

Frank McAvennie has insisted Ianis Hagi is not ready to quit Rangers for a Premier League move.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said Hagi will need to start playing again before thinking about a move away from Ibrox.

The 24-year-old joined the Ibrox club in 2020 but has not made an appearance for the Light Blues since January.

He suffered an ACL injury in the Gers’ 4-0 win over Stirling Albion in the Scottish Cup.

As quoted by the Daily Record (23 September), speaking in August Giovanni van Bronckhorst said he does not expect the midfielder to return before the World Cup break.

Speaking to Romanian outlet ProSport (31 October), fellow countryman and former Tottenham and West Ham winger Ilie Dumitrescu has backed Hagi for a Premier League move.

Dumitrescu said the Romanian would have no problem in the English top flight.

But McAvenni insisted Hagi needs to get back into the Rangers team before contemplating a move.

He is not getting anywhere near the team at the moment because of his injury,” he told Football Insider.

It has been so long since he played I did not even know he was still there. It will just be trying to bring his name back into the fold and make people remember him.

But he has got to start doing it on the pitch before he can talk about that. But that is not happening.

Hagi made 27 appearances for the Bears last season.

In those outings he scored four goals and provided four assists.
