Pundit verdict on Tottenham completing ‘£20m’ Dele Alli sale after Ornstein update
Alan Hutton has claimed Tottenham are set to miss out on “millions” should Dele Alli leave in January.
The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the 25-year-old’s value has plummeted to around the £20million mark.
As reported by the Athletic on Monday (13 December), Tottenham have given Alli the green light to leave next month, either permanently or on loan.
As detailed by Football Insider last year (3 December, 2020), Daniel Levy was reluctant to let Alli go at the start of this year and eventually blocked a move to PSG.
However, Hutton has suggested Alli’s value has dropped significantly in the past 11 months and that Spurs may have missed out on sealing a big-money fee for the midfielder.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “We’re talking millions.
“They bought for under £5million from MK Dons. At his height, when he’s scoring all the goals, he gets into the England squad, you’re thinking this boy is a £50-60million-plus player.
“If Tottenham ask for £40million now, I don’t think there are going to be many takers.
“If they come down to the £20million, you could have clubs interested.
“He’s just really fell off which is a shame to see. I’ve always backed his corner, I’ve always thought he was an excellent player.
“He just maybe had some issues, for whatever reason. The problem I see at the moment is all the managers have had the same situation.
“They have tried to get the best out of him. He has played and it has not quite worked for whatever reason.
“They probably need to move some players on so they can get funds in and then reinvest in the squad.”

Alli has made 13 appearances for Spurs this season.
However, he has played just two minutes in the Premier League since Antonio Conte’s arrival.
