Pundit: ‘We know Leeds have money’ as unexpecte January transfer plan revealed
Leeds United must strengthen their squad depth in January as injuries continue to pile up.
That’s according to former Whites stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider following Marcelo Bielsa’s fresh comments on the January window.
As quoted by Phil Hay on Thursday (9 December), Bielsa hinted his January plans have not changed despite an injury crisis at Leeds.
In a statement released on Thursday (9 December), Leeds confirmed Patrick Bamford, Liam Cooper, Kalvin Phillips and Rodrigo are all sidelined.
Kenny insists his former side have money to invest in January and he can’t understand why Bielsa has suggested signings won’t be forthcoming.
“If Leeds want to progress, they need fresh faces in,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“This is a classic case of second season syndrome but if Leeds want to be where they want to be, they have to spend money.
“They are going to have to eventually. Leeds can’t keep losing three or four starters every week, it can’t go on.
“You look at the bench sometimes as the players must have an average age of 18. I’m baffled that they haven’t invested.
“There isn’t a lot there. I think the players are overplaying and that’s because we don’t have a big squad.
“We know the money is there. It doesn’t sound like they are going to spend it though.
“That was a slightly odd thing for Bielsa to say I must admit.”

Leeds have struggled with injuries all season as Bamford only returned against Brentford on 5 December after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Phillips and Cooper have been mainstays this season, making a combined 31 appearances in all competitions.
