Noel Whelan has heaped praise on the desire and attitude of Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli ahead of Wednesday’s clash against Fulham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League striker claimed the 24-year-old has shown Jose Mourinho “he is up for the fight”.
Mourinho told the Daily Mail after the game that it would not be a surprise if the England international featured in Spurs’ game on Wednesday.
The north London giants were set to travel to Villa Park in midweek but that game has now been postponed and Spurs will instead host Fulham on Wednesday.
Asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Dele’s performance against eighth-tier Marine, Whelan said: “You can only play against what’s in front of you.
“And you’ve got to have that desire and hunger to want to play whether it’s Man Utd you’re playing against or Marine.
“It was a great performance, he got on the ball, had some lovely little nutmegs. He was a player that was heavily involved.
“It doesn’t matter who you are up against, I think he showed the desire to Jose Mourinho that he is up for the fight.
“Whether he stays at the club or not, he showed a good attitude on Sunday and that’s important.”
Prior to Spurs’ trip to Rossett Park, Dele had started just five games this season including just one start in the league – their opening day defeat to Everton.
The former MK Dons ace has been omitted from 11 of Tottenham’s 17 Premier League matchday squads this campaign.
