Pundit 'wowed' by 'new signing' at Tottenham after 'massive' Winks update
Harry Winks has been “like a new signing” for Tottenham after rediscovering his best form, according to Alan Hutton.
The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted praise from manager Antonio Conte will be a “massive boost” for the 25-year-old’s confidence.
Winks has featured in five out of seven Premier League games since Conte’s arrival in November, after playing just 61 minutes of league action under Nuno Espirito Santo.
As quoted by Sky Sports last Friday (31 December), the former Chelsea boss confirmed Winks “will stay” at Tottenham past this month’s transfer window, adding that the England international is a “reliable” option.
Hutton claimed the midfielder will have “needed” to hear that praise after enduring a “tough” spell in north London.
“There’s nothing better than your manager coming out and giving you that kind of boost, it’s massive,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“He probably needed it. He’s had a tough couple of seasons under different managers, got a little bit of stick from the fans as well – so to get that backing from an elite manager, wow, that’ll be the confidence boost he needs.
“You can see it from his performances. He isn’t playing it safe or sideways, he’s actually taking risks and playing it forward.
“We know he can do it, and he’s now producing assists and all sorts to really get the trust of Conte. He’ll have so much belief now, and it’ll be like a new signing for Spurs as well.”
Winks could be in action as Tottenham take on Morecambe in the FA Cup third round tomorrow.
The midfielder has made 14 appearances in all competitions this term.
