‘Push them even harder’ – Rodgers delivers ominous warning following unique Celtic triumph

Brendan Rodgers has sent an ominous warning to the rest of Scottish football following Celtic’s Scottish Cup Final win over Motherwell.

The Hoops became the first team in Scottish football history to win the domestic treble two seasons in a row following the 2-0 win over the Steelmen, and Rodgers wants the Hoops to get even better next season.

“We can be better next year. It’s brilliant, we’ve won three trophies and that’s what we set out to do” Rodgers told BBC Sport, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“I need to push them even harder next year, there’s always improvements we can make.

“It’s difficult when you win three trophies two years on the trot and we now need to recover and come back with a big motivation in the summer.”

The Hoops struggled to match the football they played last season, when they went through the domestic season unbeaten, but they were still able to clinch the treble once more, and write their name in the pages of Scottish football history.

Football Insider verdict

The type of manager Rodgers is, always demanding improvement, will mean that he won’t allow the Hoops to slacken next season. There could perhaps be a more concerted effort on Europe, as after reaching the last 32 of the Europa League the Hoops will want to improve on that next season. The Bhoys will need to try and avoid the type of defeats they suffered in the Champions League, as no matter how much money teams like PSG have it is not acceptable for the Hoops to lose seven goals to any side. The Bhoys are making progress though, it can’t be denied, but to take the extra step that Rodgers and the club’s support will want to get to, they will have to demand the club spend big in the summer, to reach the next level. The Bhoys can do no more in Scotland, now is the time to make a shout in Europe, or face the consequences.
