Yet another club have been credited with an interest in Celtic’s Moussa Dembele, with The Sun claiming that Crystal Palace have approached the Hoops with an enquiry about the French under-21 international.
They can be added to the long list of clubs reportedly interested in the player, with Brighton and Stoke the other Premier League clubs most recently mentioned.
The constant speculation can’t be doing the player or the club any good, as the transfer window goes into it’s third week.
Chief executive Peter Lawwell and the rest of the board at Celtic have to make an ultimatum to any clubs genuinely interested in the player: either put up, or shut up.
The longer the saga drags on the less time Brendan Rodgers has of finding a suitable replacement for a player who scored 32 goals last season and won a domestic treble.
The player, who undeniably will want to test himself in a bigger stage, and the Premier League is the biggest of them all, will want his future sorted out before it becomes too much of a distraction and begins to affect his on the pitch performances.
If no concrete bid is made for the player going into the last few days of the transfer window, the Hoops would be well within their rights to announce that the player isn’t for sale until the summer at the earliest. That may be the best course of action for all involved in this long-running story.
