Raheem Sterling has ‘deadline’ to join new club – ‘where he will end up is interesting’

Raheem Sterling must move quickly if he wants to finalise a move to a European club after being released by Chelsea.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, amid a “deadline” for clubs still in European competition to submit their squads.

Sterling’s contract at Chelsea was terminated by mutual consent, and the 31-year-old is still on the lookout for his next club.

European clubs are interested in signing Sterling, who has not played a single minute of first team football this season.

Raheem Sterling agent ‘working overtime’ on next move

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes a switch to Fulham could be off after the club signed Oscar Bobb from Manchester City.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks there is a “chance” that Sterling moves to Europe.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Now, Raheem, certainly his agent is working overtime in the media right now. And we’re hearing how hungry he is and how great he is and where all these things are going to go.

But where he might end up, well, that’s interesting. Now, there’s one thing, although he’s a free agent now, and so the transfer window doesn’t apply as such, but there is a deadline at midnight, I believe Thursday night, where clubs that are still in European competitions have to name their squads for the play-off phase.

“So there is a midnight deadline if he’s going to join somebody in one of those clubs in Europe. And the talk has always been about him leaving England and going into Europe.

“I still believe there’s a chance, although I thought Raheem might have gone to Fulham, but Oscar Bobb seems to have pushed him away, especially with Harry Wilson staying as well.”

Sterling has multiple options to consider

The Saudi Pro League or the MLS could be destinations for Sterling, who is continuing to weigh up his options.

West Ham have shown interest in Sterling now he is a free agent, and it was believed that the forward wanted to stay put in London.

However, Sterling has found it difficult remaining in the Premier League due to his wage demands, which has previously put off a potential move.
