Raheem Sterling issues statement after latest development at Arsenal

Raheem Sterling shared a message on social media after the Arsenal Carabao Cup victory over Crystal Palace.

The Gunners secured their place in the semi-finals of the competition with a 3-2 win against their London rivals on Wednesday 18 December.

Despite falling behind early due to a Jakub Kiwior mistake, Gabriel Jesus turned the game around with his first hat-trick for the club.

Sterling was one of eight changes Mikel Arteta made following a disappointing goalless draw against Everton.

The 30-year-old’s only goal for the club so far came in this competition against Bolton, giving him an opportunity to win back fans after recent underwhelming performances.

He shared a four-word message on Instagram: “Onto the semi-final”.

Arsenal still have their hopes in Raheem Sterling

Football Insider opinion

The English international has struggled for game time at his loan club, making only five starts and amassing just 426 minutes. With a single goal and two assists to his name, his impact has been limited.

Fans have voiced their frustrations, suggesting the club should cut his loan short to bring in another attacker to address their scoring problems.

However, this scenario seems unlikely as the player remains “determined to force his way into the team” behind Bukayo Saka in the pecking order.

Arteta has also taken some responsibility for the winger’s lack of opportunities, admitting: “It’s been tough and very difficult for me to accept that I haven’t given him more minutes”.

With injuries to key players like Saka, Martin Ødegaard, and Declan Rice affecting the team’s performances, the club cannot afford to lose another attacking option without securing a replacement.

The winger came close to scoring last night, denied only by a brilliant save from Dean Henderson and the crossbar. While his goal tally remains at one, he still has a role to play over the next six months.

In other news, Arsenal have been told to sign this Man United forward.
