Rangers ‘100 per cent’ tipped to complete Souttar signing after reveal in last 24 hours – pundit

Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Rangers to sign John Souttar from Hearts on a permanent deal this month.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Hearts will want to get as much money as they can this month knowing Souttar will leave for free at the end of the season.

Rangers confirmed last Friday (14 January) the Scotland centre-back had agreed to a pre-contract deal.

He will move to Ibrox at the end of the season when his Hearts contract expires.

The Edinburgh club released their own statement the same day insisting he would only leave in the January transfer window if a “significant and satisfactory offer is made”.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun yesterday (20 January), Giovanni van Bronckhorst admitted “anything can happen” before the window shuts at the end of the month.

Asked whether Rangers will be able to complete a deal for Souttar this month, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “100 per cent.

“If you know a player is going to leave on a pre-contract, go and get as much money as you can, 100 per cent.

“It makes sense. You always know you’re going to lose your best players to the big boys like Rangers and Celtic so get some money while you can, for sure.”

Souttar, 25, has started all but two of Hearts’ Scottish Premiership games this term as they chase a top-three finish.

The Jam Tarts are currently third, eight points clear of Motherwell in fourth and 13 points behind leaders Rangers.
