‘Rangers £10m windfall could accelerate Ibrox takeover’ – boardroom source
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Rangers could attract new investors through their performance in Europe this season.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs and their board – insisted the Gers’ £10million prize money windfall so far this term will give CEO Patrick Stewart much needed “breathing space”.
Rangers confirmed direct qualification to the last 16 of the Europa League with a 2-1 home win over Union Saint-Gilloise, which meant they finished eighth in the league phase.
The Gers will face one of Anderlecht, Bodo/Glimt, Fenerbahce, or FC Twente in the next round – which kicks off in March.
Wyness told Football Insider in November that he expects a North American group to make a takeover move for Rangers.
The club’s net losses increased by £4.1million to £17.2million for the 2023-24 campaign.
Rangers need ‘new blood and new money’ in boardroom, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s going to be about £10million so far, which will be very well-received in the Rangers coffers.
“That’s guaranteed. It’s a very good number for a Scottish club.
“It’s given them breathing space, and Patrick Stewart has got the space to review things without taking emergency measures.
“They’ve got the second half of this season to do the best they can in Europe.

“You’d think their performance may also attract some new investors because they’ve got to change the board.
“They need new blood and new money, and this should help them do that.”
